In 2021, there were 3.8 thousand pet stores in Poland. Pet owners, however, opted not only for stationary shopping but also sought accessories and food for their charges online. Some of the largest retailers include Zooplus, PsiBufet, Fera, and Zoo24. CENEO, a Polish website for comparing prices from more than 18 thousand online stores, featured a multitude of products for pet lovers. Among the products for dogs and cats, pet food was the largest category on the platform. In Poland, by far the most popular pets are dogs, followed closely by cats. In 2022, 42 percent of Polish homes had a dog. Pets also play a big role in the lives of children. Not only can they be great companions, but they can also teach responsibility from a young age. More than 45 percent of children in the country lived with and cared for a beloved pet. As pets are often treated as full-fledged family members, owners often decide to take them along with them when they travel. In 2021, most owners transported their pets to the United Kingdom and Germany.The popularity and passion for pets can also be seen through the growing content on the internet. Pet channels are attracting increasingly large audiences in Poland. The leading channel in this category, Piesologia, had over 163 thousand subscribers as of 2023.
